Ground Round reopens in Brookfield more than a decade after sudden, mysterious closure

The Ground Round Grill & Bar is making a comeback in the Milwaukee-area market after the once-popular chain abruptly shuttered its area restaurants more than a decade ago.

The casual restaurant chain said Wednesday it has opened inside Brookfield’s Midway Inn & Suites Hotel, replacing the former Maxwell’s Restaurant.

Jersey Mike’s seeking sub shop in Wauwatosa

National sub sandwich chain Jersey Mike’s is seeking a new location at Wauwatosa’s One Mayfair Place, continuing the chain’s expansion in the Milwaukee area.

As we’ve previously reported, Jersey Mike’s now has seven restaurants in and around Milwaukee, and plans to have about 20 by 2018. Nationally, the Manasquan, N.J.-based chain has been opening upward of 200 sub shops per year, expanding at an aggressive clip on the promise of higher-quality sub sandwiches featuring fresh-sliced meats and cheeses.

Fondy Food Center opening pop-up farmers’ market at Schlitz Park

Fondy Food Center is hosting its first pop-up farmers’ market at Schlitz Park, running weekly starting Thursday, June 25.

The food center is a Milwaukee nonprofit that operates the farmers’ market at 2200 W. Fond du Lac Ave., helping provide access to fresh food for families on Milwaukee’s north side. Its presence at Schlitz Park ties to Fondy’s strategic plan to expand its impact in the broader Milwaukee community, according to a press release.
